A: Hi Bev, travelling with medications is a common issue, and in general most over-the counter medications are without problem, with the exception of some cold/flu medications, and some weight-loss products. Certain countries will not admit codeine or amphetamine-family medications.
Prescription medication must be carried in original containers, and a written authority from the prescribing doctor is helpful when large volumes, or unusual medications are carried. Some medications, like OXYCONTIN, are more complicated as they are known drugs-of-addiction, and a prescribing doctor's letter is essential for transport. Certain countries will ban them entirely, and the only way to carry them in is to have permission from the respective customs/consular authority in advance. Travellers need to contact the destination's consular information to be sure. For China, no special permission is required, but proper authority letter and original containers are essential.
All travellers's medical kits available at Travel Doctor clinics are safe to travel across any international border.
