Holiday Traveller

Taking a Gap Year

Of increasing popularity is the “Gap Year” experience, a work/holiday combination travel experience. The opportunity to enjoy and benefit from an extended period of travel, changing cultures and experience, is a fantastic new trend that can benefit the traveller and the destination
While it evolved from the idea of the gap between school and university or college, it now is a term referring to any long break between life’s activities, and the age of travellers on their “gap year” can be just about anything.

Get the best from your Gap Experience

Don’t forget your health!  The excitement of a gap year, and the amount of planning that goes into getting work, balancing the finances, and deciding where and how to travel, means that lots of people don’t think about any possible health issues.
You still need to think about:

  • • Stabilise any pre-existing medical problems
  • • Address any current health concerns before departure- maybe have a check-up
  • • Consider relevant vaccines (or even possible ones that are easier to get now , than while you are away)
  • • Get a travellers medical kit

The main issue from a travel medical viewpoint, is that you should not forget to have a travel medicine consultation. This simple process allows all of the above things to be addressed expertly. Travel Doctor-TMVC clinics can do that easily.

Don’t forget your travel insurance!

Travellers who are away for a long time obviously have an increased chance of getting ill, having an accident, and needing to access medical services while away. Travel insurance is therefore essential.
